Galaxy Ball 2001 photos © 2001 Deborah Stone Once again, Robert Beltran and the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles hosted a wonderful day-long event featuring appearances and entertainment provided by the cast members of the various Star Trek shows. Among the stars donating their time and talents for charity were Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner, Jonathan Frakes, Wil Wheaton, Rene Auberjonois, Aron Eisenberg, and the usual gang from Star Trek: Voyager: Robert Beltran, Roxann Dawson, Robert Picardo, Ethan Phillips, Tim Russ, and of course, Robert Duncan McNeill. The charities benefiting from the day's events included DSALA, Doctors Without Borders, Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Half the Sky Foundation, Wordbridge, Sojourn, Zenith Youth Homes, and Robbie's nominated charity, The Wildwood School. While professional and family commitments kept Robbie from joining most of the daytime events, he appeared in the nick of time for the autograph session and performed several songs at the evening's gala, including "Fly Like An Eagle," "Play that Funky Music," "That's the Way I Like It," and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me." Between the autograph session and the evening performance, he graciously joined the members of RanDoM Flight for a gathering where the club presented him with his birthday present -- an autographed photo of baseball player Hank Aaron. Kudos and thanks are owed to everyone who made the Galaxy Ball possible, especially DSALA, its staff and its volunteers, Robert Beltran, Jen Schlenzig, and Jackie Edwards. Below are some photos from the day's events.
